IT Roadmap Philly Rewind 08/03/2010
At Network World's IT Roadmap in Philadelphia on July 14th, 305 IT executives, professionals, and vendors came together to share best practices and discuss the most pressing issues facing IT today. Allan Frank, CTO of Philadelphia, spoke to a packed general session where he talked of Philly’s vision to go Gigabit, Paperless and Wireless. Part of this vision included ripping out 1,000 switches, moving from 165 servers to 54 to reduce replication, and buying the assets of Wireless Philadelphia, the largest mesh network in the US to give Philly 80% city coverage. Following the conference, attendees told me the event allowed them to “move forward with projects [they] otherwise might have kept on the back burner.” In the exit survey, we asked attendees which vendors would be on their short list of presenters for an upcoming IT Roadmap. Respondent requests included Dell, HP, Microsoft (particularly Windows 7 deployment!), Oracle, Red Hat, SAP, and VMware. Fortunately, Philadelphia isn’t the last stop on the road. Network World’s IT Roadmap will be travelling to three more cities this year: Dallas on September 14th, Washington, D.C. on October 19th, and San Francisco on November 3rd. Get involved and chart your own IT journey with us. For more information on sponsoring or attending IT Roadmap, click here. I look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
